Aims of Team BRYC
Our program aims to enable kids to have maximum fun on the water, develop skills and a love of sailing, make friendships and develop a sense of the Club as ‘home’. New young families are welcome to join and participate.
BRYC is at Half Moon Bay with a picturesque sandy beach with access via a boat ramp that makes it one of the easiest clubs for children to learn to sail and fantastic BBQ deck and bar & bistro in the club house for socialising.
The Team BRYC social group organises Movie Nights, Christmas BBQ and special events throughout summer.
The following groups make up Team BRYC:
1. Yellow and Blue Groups (Saturday Mornings)
Our yellow (beginner) and blue (advanced) groups use the club Optimists to learn the basics and fine tune their sailing skills. A program fee covers the running cost of the rescue boats and a qualified instructor for each group. All parents are asked to assist in the running of the sessions either on the water or on land. We finish our morning sessions with a BBQ.
We’re building friendships and bonds that will encourage kids to keep sailing for many years and be proud of their own achievements. We encourage boys and girls to join and provide club boats to assist in the first year or two of learning to sail.
2. Junior Racing (Saturday Afternoons)
The 2024-25 season will support a fleet of Optimists, Aeros and O’pen Skiffs, as a stepping-stone to fleet racing. This becomes a pathway to begin competing at the many regattas in our area. A fee covers having an instructor on the water with this group and parents are still encouraged to assist.
3. Out There Sailing (Saturday Afternoons)
For kids who love water activities but may not be so keen on racing, the “Out There Sailing” group is about adventure and having fun on the water. Kids aged 12+ can build friendships in a supervised group using a range of watercraft including dinghies, kayaks, SUPs, motor boat handling and maybe try foiling on a Waszp.
Parent/Child Sailing
We have a growing number of parents who sail with their kids in the Club Saturday races. This can be one of the best ways for kids to learn to sail. There are club Pacers available to hire but parents are encouraged to have their own boat if sailing for the full season.
