Team BRYC Junior Sailing
Team BRYC - Junior Sailing Summer 2023-24
Team BRYC is a junior dinghy sailing program that provides a safe fun environment for children to learn to sail and encourages families to be involved with their children learning to sail.
The format is 14 Saturday morning or afternoon sessions from 28th October through to March, with a break over the Christmas Holidays.
Season Dates:
Commencing 28th October 2023 – Concluding March 2024
Age Groups:
- 8 - 13 year olds- sailing Optimists, O’pen Skiffs and Sabots.
- 13 - 17 year olds- sailing Pacers, RS Feva, RS Quest, Sabres and 125s.
Aims of Team BRYC:
Our programs aims to enable kids to have fun on the water, develop skills and a love of sailing, make friendships and develop a sense of the Club as ‘home’. New young families are welcome to join and participate. BRYC has a picturesque sandy beach with access via a boat ramp that makes it one of the easiest clubs for children to learn to sail and fantastic bar and bistro in the club house for socialising.
Yellow and Blue Groups
Our yellow and blue groups use the club Optimists to learn the basics and fine tune their sailing skills. A program fee covers the running cost of the rescue boats and a qualified instructor for each group. All parents are asked to assist in the running of the sessions either on the water or on land. We finish our morning sessions with a BBQ.
We’re building friendships and bonds that will encourage kids to keep sailing for many years and be proud of their own achievements. We encourage boys and girls to join and provide club boats to assist in the first year or two of learning to sail.
Junior Racing
The 2023-24 season will support a Green Fleet of Optimists and O’pen Skiffs, as a stepping-stone to fleet racing. This becomes a pathway to begin competing at the many regattas in our area. A fee covers having an instructor on the water with this group and parents are still encouraged to assist.
Junior Development Squad
Teenagers are encouraged to participate in the Saturday racing in double handed sailing with Pacers and Feva’s or in their own boats. They will learn to consolidate their skills with the objective to join in club Saturday racing in the Pacer or with the 125s. Teens in this group will have a good base of sailing skills already through school sailing or prior years in Optis or Open skiffs.
Parent Child Sailing
We have a growing number of parents who sail with their kids in the Club Saturday races. This can be one of the best ways for kids to learn to sail. There are club Pacers available for hire but parents are encouraged to have their own boat if sailing for the full season.
Open for applications:
There are a limited number of places available for new juniors to join Team BRYC.
We are particularly keen for any young sailors of all ages with their own boats including Optimists, O’pen Skiffs, Sabots…. to join us.
