Course information

This course is sold out.

Black Rock Yacht Club runs a combined Start Sailing 1 and 2 course with a minimum of 21 hours training. The course is aimed at adults and older teenagers. The course is designed to be fun and has a strong social element to it which includes cruising to local cafes. Our qualified instructors are enthusiastic club members with many years sailing experience that quickly bring students to a level of sailing where they demonstrate confidence in their sailing abilities.

You will learn how to rig a dinghy, the basics of maneuvering it around in relation to the wind and waves, how to deal with the close proximity of other boats and how to right the boat after a capsize. During the course, there will be theory sessions and on-water sessions. As the course progresses your confidence will build so that you are comfortable sailing in most conditions. Once you learn the techniques of sailing, you'll never lose it and can be translated to any size yacht. At the completion of the course, participants will be certified as competent beginner sailors.
