Q. Our group has more then 10 people but we want to swim together, how can we still swim together?
A. It is strictly 10 swimmers PLUS there are 2 volunteer swim sherpas. If you are a regular swim group with cold water swimming experience, suggest 2 swimmers become swim sherpas. Swim Sherpas do not need to pay for the event as they are volunteers. However, they will have a responsibility to look after the swim group. They MUST be experienced cold water swimmers and preferrably have done this swim before.
Q. I don't have a tow float or suitable light?
A. You MUST have a tow float and light to do this swim. You can hire the equipment when you purchase tickets. No tow float and light, no swim.
Q. Is a swim cap light suitable?
A. No. The light must go inside your tow float and it needs to light up the float. You can add a torch into a waterproof bag and insert that into the tow float.
Q. Can I wear fins and wetsuit?
A. Yes. You may wear a wetsuit, fins, paddles, snorkel, or use other buoyancy devices.
Q. Will my belongings be safe?
A. Personal belongings will be left in areas accessible to others within the club premises. Please do not leave valuables, as all items are left at your own risk.
Q. Where can I park?
A. Paid parking is available at Black Rock. You will need either a Bayside City Council parking permit or to pay for parking.
Free street parking is available off Beach Road in:
-
Bayview Crescent
-
Bent Parade
-
Arkaringa Crescent
Q. What happens if weather conditions deteriate before the swim?
A. Event organisers will closely monitor weather conditions in the days leading up to the event and throughout the swim. If the weather and water are strong, the swim IS NOT cancelled.
-
the course is shortened to a 'tea bag' swim
-
there will not be any RHIBS launched as this will be too dangerous, however, there will be additional in-water swimmer support for safety reasons
The club takes its duty of care and swimmer safety seriously.
