Adult Learn to Sail (ALTS) is an 8-week introductory sailing course designed for adults who want to learn the fundamentals of sailing in a fun, supportive and social environment.
Led by qualified instructors, you'll gain confidence on the water through a mix of theory and practical on-water sessions, learning essential skills such as rigging, manoeuvring, safety and capsize recovery.
During the course, through both theory sessions and on-water sessions you'll learn:
- How to rig a dinghy
- The basics of manoeuvring in relation to the wind and waves
- How to deal with the close proximity of other boats
- How to right the boat after a capsize.
- & much more!
On successful completion of the course, participants will qualify for the Australian Sailing “Start Sailing 1 and 2” certificate .
BRYC is passionate about sailing and is keen to support new sailors.
Many opportunities exist for new graduates to continue sailing at BRYC in social or racing events with the club.
BRYC has regular racing on Saturdays from October through to May each year and graduates often stay on to become long term club members.
When: Sunday 31st January 2027- 4th April 2027 8:30 am - 12:30pm (first session starts at 9am)
What to bring: Sailing jacket, Hat , sunscreen, towel and change of clothes, Water shoes, fun attitude.
Cost: $485 (Early Buoy price $415 till 27th Dec), which includes a complimentary membership of the club.

Who should do this course?
This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.
Course Outcome
You will gain your Start Sailing 1 And Start Sailing 2 completion certificate.
We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here.
